Ingredients:
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup peanut butter (make sure it does not contain xylitol, as it’s toxic to dogs)
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup water
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
1 In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and rolled oats. Mix well to ensure they are evenly combined.
2 Add the peanut butter and unsweetened applesauce to the bowl. Mix them into the dry ingredients until the mixture becomes crumbly.
3 Gradually add water to the mixture while stirring. Continue adding water until the dough starts to come together. It should be firm and not too sticky.
4 Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for a few minutes until it forms a smooth ball. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. You can use a rolling pin to help achieve an even thickness.
5 Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes from the dough. You can choose fun dog-themed shapes like bones or paw prints. Or a pizza cutter works perfectly to cut long strips and then you cut perpindicular to make little squares. Place the cut-out biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each biscuit.
6 Bake the dog biscuits in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crisp. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning. Once baked, remove the biscuits from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack. They will become harder as they cool.
Store the peanut butter dog biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature. They should stay fresh for about 2 weeks.
Now, your furry friends can enjoy these homemade peanut butter dog biscuits as a delicious and healthy treat!
