Issue 03 is ALL ABOUT THE DOGS. My family adopted Phyllis (MiMi) from Caring Animal Rescue this past February. She is the reason the Issue 03 focus concept ALL ABOUT THE DOGS was born.
Let me introduce you to Phyllis. They say she is 8 but she acts like she is 3. She is A Chihuahua with wings on her back, the true Chihuahua spirit and the sweetest little nose kisser ever. We call her boom boom because, well, she is a bit of a force.
MISSION:
For The Love Of A Slaughter Horse is a foundation that prides itself on the ability to successfully change the lives of all types and sizes of our equine friends. Bringing home one horse a month to help those who give us their all and saving those who saved us, turned into bringing home 8-10 horses every month and giving them the chance at a new life. We are focused on taking horses who have been let down and claimed to be worthless. With the animals best interest in mind, we try to find the best situation suited for each individual horse, where they can receive the love and care that they deserve. Whether it be a pasture pet or show horse, we believe ever horse we bring home has a greater purpose in this world.
WHAT WE DO:
Every month we make a 4 hour trip to the kill pen auction, this is the same auction that big “kill pens” get their horses from. The horses you see online are NOT typically in danger of shipping to slaughter. Over the years of getting to know the kill buyers in person, we have learned the tricks of their trade. By purchasing horses they claim they will ship, they make enough money to fill their trailer and continue the cycle. The horses you do NOT see online are the ones that need help the most.
We take pride in our rescue horses. Working tirelessly to provide the best medical care, daily handling and training as well as finding the right partner for each horse as an individual. With the help of our amazing team and supporters, we have successfully rescued around 400 horses in just under 4 years. Our rescues have gone on to be show horses, lesson horses, trails, equine assisted therapy partners and more.
While we are a rescue primarily focused on the auction/slaughter pipeline, we do also take in owner surrenders. Our doors are open to any horse, not defined by age or any other requirement, that is in need of help. We are currently in the process of creating a “Last Act Of Kindness Fund” as we do regularly take home animals who have been used up and thrown away close to the end of their lives, or have injuries that simply cannot be fixed. Mission of Birthday Buds is to make a positive difference in the lives of low-income children by supplying them with fun as well as essential birthday presents they would not otherwise receive, while teaching children the value of giving.
